The President of the United States Donald Trump approved the request of Governor Greg Ebbott Texas about the extension of the expired natural disaster in the Kerr district and expand it outside the district. Thanks to this, eight districts of the central part of Texas, where a week ago there was a large flood, will receive financial assistance from the federal budget.
This was declared the American leader himself during his visit to Texas, where he wanted to evaluate the loss from the flood, which was the life of more than 120 Americans. The president in the screw flew in the most affected areas of the state, then spent a briefing.
Trump will also meet with rescuers and relatives of the victims of the flood.
Speaking at a briefing, Trump said very emotionally what he saw during his audit and noted, referring to local authorities and relatives of the dead and victims, which the state administration “worked very well and professionally” – otherwise there will be much more victims.
“I have never seen anything like it. A small narrow river that simultaneously turns into a monster. And here is what happened here. This is horror, ”he said.
The US President also noted that the Kerr district tragedy only adds confidence in the decision to close the Federal Agency for Emergency Assistance and restore the response to the states of natural disasters.
As reported, OBOZ.UAAccording to the latest data, at least 120 people were killed in the center of Texas. This number can still change – another 172 people are considered to be missing here.
County Kerr was most injured, which now confirmed 96 deaths. Moreover, among the dead – 36 children.
Texas search and rescue operation continues. More than 2100 rescuers from local, employees and federal departments are involved in the search and assistance. Teams from 12 other states arrived in the area.
Kerry is still looking for 161 people, including children. We will recall: during the flood in the children’s camp “Mystic” (near the city of Kerrville) there were about 750 girls. The vast majority of the children managed to escape, but dozens of girls were missing.
Unlike Trump’s words about the “wonderful work” of local authorities, the state continues in the state, which finds out why the warning system did not work properly. In particular, it is known that officials postponed more than one and a half hours of departure of danger warnings.
According to the Minister of Internal Security Christie Nooy, the National Meteorological Service sent a notification in time, but this “does not mean that he was heard.” The federal official emphasized that now local authorities should evaluate their notifications and draw conclusions.
In turn, the governor of Texas Greg Ebbott announced a special legislative session, which will be devoted to flood issues in order to “provide better preparation for such events in the future.”
Already on July 6, Trump signed a statement that announced the natural disaster regime. At that time, 59 dead were known only in the area, and in total in the state – more than 80 dead.
