The French foreign territory of New Caledonia, located near Australia, will become a new state in France. This decision was made after more than ten days of debate.
Selected representatives of New Caledonia and France have reached a historical agreement. French leader Emmanuel Macron reported this to H.
“I would like to thank the state minister of foreign territories Manuel Valtz and participants in the negotiations with whom I will meet in the Elisha Palace at 18:00. Now is the time for respect, stability and unification of good intentions to create a common future, ”he wrote.
The summit on the future of New Caledonia was a draft agreement signed by all parties on Saturday, July 12. This was reported on the official web of the Government of France.
The agreement provides for a new political organization, an even greater distribution of sovereignty and economic and social restructuring of the archipelago.
New Caledonia will be enshrined in the Constitution of France and recognized as an international community. Novocaledons will be allowed to have dual citizenship – French and Novokagesonovskoye. The basic law, which will be adopted by the new Congress of Caledonia in 2026, will unite the ability of the archipelago to independently organize, and the population interested in this agreement will participate in the vote.
