On Monday (14), US president gave Moscow 50 days to end his intervention in Ukraine, launched in 2022, under penalty of severe evaluations
THE Kremlin guaranteed, on Tuesday (15), that it continues to negotiate with the Ukrainebut it needs time to respond to the “serious” statements of the US president, Donald Trumpwhich gave to Russia 50 days to end the conflict and promised weapons to Kiev. On Monday, Donald Trump gave Russia a 50-day ultimatum to end his intervention in Ukraine, launched in 2022, under penalty of severe evaluations. He also stated that military equipment, payments by European NATO members, were sent to Ukraine. “President Trump’s statements are very serious. Of course we need time to analyze what has been said in Washington and, if or when Putin deemed necessary, he will speak,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told reporters. “It seems that this decision made in Washington, in NATO countries and directly in Brussels, will be received by Kiev not as a sign of peace, but as a sign to continue war,” he criticized.
Peskov said Russia opened “proposals on the Ukrainian side” for a third round of negotiations after two unsuccessful sessions in Istanbul. “We continue eager,” he said during his daily press conference, with the presence of AFP. Since his return to the White House in January, Donald Trump has been trying to press Moscow and Kiev to reach a peace agreement. During his election campaign, he said he could end the conflict “in 24 hours”, never explaining how he would do that. After multiplying his rapprochement gestures with Vladimir Putin, Trump has changed Tom in recent weeks, expressing his frustration.
“Disappointed”
On Monday, Trump declared himself “disappointed” with Putin. “I thought we would have a deal two months ago, but it seems to materialize,” he said on Monday at the White House, alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Without an agreement in 50 days, the United States will introduce “secondary tariffs,” ie against Moscow allies, threatened the US President. Russia’s main commercial partner last year was China, with almost 34%, closely followed by India, Türkiye and Belarus, according to the Federal Customs Service of Russia. China reacted to threats on Tuesday by stating that “coercion or pressure do not solve problems,” according to statements by Lin Jian, spokesman for the Beijing Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Trump and Rutte revealed the terms of an agreement on Monday, according to which the NATO military alliance would buy weapons, including Patriot antimysis batteries from the United States and supplied to Ukraine. “Billions of dollars in military equipment will be bought from the United States, which will be destined to NATO (…) and quickly distributed on the battlefield,” said Trump. “We, the United States, will not make any payment … We will make them, and they will pay,” said the president. Tens of thousands of people have died since Russia launched its offensive, and millions were moved from their homes in the east and southern Ukraine, devastated by bombing and fighting. Putin repeatedly rejected the calls for a ceasefire and demanded that Ukraine retired from NATO and Ceda four regions, besides Crimea, attached in 2014. Ukraine and its Western allies rejected these conditions, which consider a factual capitulation.
