(ANSA) – BANGKOK, DEC 21 – Thailand will reintroduce from today, as a preventive measure against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, a compulsory quarantine of 7-10 days in the hotel for arrivals from abroad: the measure suspends at least until January 4th the simplified procedure of the ‘Thailand Pass’ introduced last November. This was announced by a government spokesman.
“From 21 December, there will be no more new registrations for the ‘Test and Go’ (ie the program that allows entry with the ‘Thailand Pass’, ed), but only the quarantine or the ‘Phuket Sandbox'”, he said. spokeswoman Rachada Dhanadirek said referring to the pilot program that from today offers an alternative to quarantine only for those who go to Phuket.
The ‘Thailand Pass’ issued by the Bangkok authorities made it easier to enter the country, through the ‘Test and Go’, forcing vaccinated tourists with health insurance to one night in a hotel and a molecular swab, if coming from a list of over fifty countries. In the meantime, the 90,000 people already in possession of the ‘Thailand Pass’ will be able to enter Thailand by 10 January, but with additional restrictions not yet clarified by the authorities.
