Denmark, ‘green’ domestic flights by 2030

(ANSA) – ROME, 02 JAN – The Danish government aims to eliminate fossil fuels for domestic flights by 2030: Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this during her New Year’s speech, recognizing, however, that the solutions to achieve this goal do not are still available. The BBC reports it.

We want to “make flights green”, said Frederiksen: “Traveling means living, so let’s fly”, he added, underlining that “Denmark must take the initiative and raise the bar even more when other countries in the world are too slow” .

Denmark aims to reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions by 70% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The premier admitted that it will be difficult to reach the goal of green flights, but stressed that researchers and companies are working on possible solutions .

Airbus, as is well known, has announced its intention to develop hydrogen-powered aircraft that could be operational by 2035, however it is not clear whether this technology will be ready – and at low enough costs – to meet the 2030 target. (HANDLE).
