Nuclear: Iran, the Vienna talks are ‘constructive’

ISTANBUL – The Vienna talks to relaunch the nuclear deal are proceeding “in a constructive way and with progress”: the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, said, quoted by the IRNA agency. The negotiations under way since November 29 in the Austrian capital “aims to obtain results” said Bagheri Kani, who is also the chief negotiator for Tehran’s nuclear power.
“The success of the talks will be determined by reaching an agreement to remove the cruel sanctions imposed on Iran,” he added, referring to the measures imposed by former US President Donald Trump against Tehran when he decided to withdraw the US from the 2018 2015 Vienna Agreement on Control of Iranian Nuclear Activity. According to Bagheri Kani, it would be “possible to reach an agreement in the short term” if the other participants in the talks (Russia, China, France, Great Britain and Germany) show “serious willingness to accept the mechanism proposed by Iran to remove the sanctions” and they will provide guarantees that it is not possible to choose to withdraw from the agreement, as Washington did unilaterally in 2018 by decision of Trump.
