Another terrible day of pain and death in the English Channel. A young migrant who was trying to cross the strait between France and England with thirty other people aboard a small makeshift boat died this morning, off the coast of Berck, in the French department of Pas-de-Calais. : this is what is reported by the prefecture of Boulogne-sur-Mer quoted by France Presse.
The victim, about twenty years old, would be of Sudanese nationality, specifies the area prosecutor who has opened an investigation for manslaughter.
This is the first death of a migrant in the Channel in 2022, after the tragic toll of 2021, with 30 migrants dead and 4 missing. According to the prosecutor, the other 32 people who attempted to cross the Channel with the young victim were brought back to the ground “safe and sound” by French rescuers, but in a state of “hypothermia”. The migrants were on board a “semi-rigid rubber dinghy”, the local prosecutor specified.
