(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 06 – From tomorrow, images of the adventures of Tintin or the smurfs will appear on Belgian passports. The country, home to some of the most popular comic strips in the world, has also decided to celebrate them on its official documents, disseminating the characters created by Hergé and Peyo, along with others such as Lucky Luke, Blake and Mortimer, among the pages. This was announced by the Foreign Minister of Brussels, Sophie Wilmès. The new passports, he said, “are also safer thanks to new protection and personalization techniques” and “will be recognizable thanks to their original design, which pays homage to one of the jewels of our culture: the heroines and heroes of comic strips” .
The cost of documents will not be increased, the minister also stressed, adding that the updates are also linked to efforts to avoid scams on what she defined as “the object of desire of counterfeiters”.
