Hong Kong authorities strengthen anti-Covid measures after yesterday’s record of 614 new infections, most of which are related to the Omicron variant.
Governor Carrie Lam, the Guardian reported, announced today that gatherings will be limited to a maximum of two people and more public places – including churches and beauty salons – will be closed.
Lam also announced that the government will make funds available for Hong Kong dollars 26 billion (over 29 billion euros) to support the population (including small businesses) affected by the pandemic. Existing measures, including a ban on dining in restaurants after 6pm and the closure of gyms and cinemas, will be extended until February 24.
