Renault introduced the new Espace

The French company Renault has prepared for its fans a new generation of the Espace crossover. The novelty was created on the basis of the new Austral model, but it is larger and has a spacious interior for 7 people.

This was reported by the press service of the manufacturer. The new generation of the Espace model finally distanced itself from its former incarnation – the role of a minivan. Now it is a classic SUV with characteristic proportions and design. Compared to its predecessor, the car has become more compact, but this did not stop the designers from providing it with a spacious interior.

The novelty is based on the previously presented more compact Austral model, has a number of common body panels, including an identical front design, but has an increased wheelbase and can have both a 5- and 7-seat interior, which is easily transformed depending on the needs of the owner. .

Renault Espace has a length of 4722 mm (+212 mm) and a distance between the axles of 2738 mm (+69 mm), but at the same time it has become 135 mm shorter than the previous generation of the model. Renault offers customers three trim levels – the base Techno, the luxury Iconic and the sporty Esprit Alpine. Depending on this, the mass of the new Espace is from 1587 to 1698 kg, which is 215 kg less than its predecessor. The design is based on the CMF-CD modular platform, which, in addition to the related Renault Austral, is used on the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander models.

Comfort and safety are provided by a multi-link rear suspension, several modes of the Multi-Sense system, up to 32 ADAS driver assistants. The car is also equipped with 4Drive all-wheel steering system, which has reduced the turning circle to 10.4 m, which is identical to the performance of the Clio compact hatchback, despite the fact that the Espace is the largest model in the brand’s range.

Inside, you’ll find an Austral-style instrument cluster that includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge, a 12-inch OpenR Link infotainment touchscreen, and a 9.3-inch head-up screen. For the convenience of users, the cabin has 6 USB-C ports, wireless charging for gadgets, two 12 V sockets, a spacious 39-liter box for small items and several cup holders.

The top version has 48-color backlighting and a Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers. The Esprit Alpine trim uses Alcantara and faux leather with contrasting blue stitching, while the Iconic version gets leather upholstery and decorative wood accents.

The options list includes a giant panoramic roof with a length of 1330 mm and a width of 840 mm. Depending on the position of the rear rows of seats, the volume of the luggage compartment varies from 159 to 1714 liters in the 7-seater version and from 581 to 1818 liters in the 5-seater.

The new Renault Espace will initially be available with a single powertrain, the E-Tech hybrid. It includes a 1.2 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder internal combustion engine, an electric motor, a high-voltage starter-alternator and a 2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The total power reaches 200 hp, and the torque is 205 Nm. The drive is made to the front pair of wheels using an automatic gearbox. Espace is capable of speeds up to 175 km / h, acceleration to the first hundred takes 8.8 s. Average fuel consumption is down to 4.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are down to 104 g/km. The power reserve of the novelty reaches 1100 km.

Renault Espace will appear at dealers in the near future. The production of new items will be organized at the plant in Spanish Palencia in parallel with the Austral model. Prices will be announced closer to the start of the sale.
