At Electric Days 2023 discussion on the mobility of the future

The curtain has risen on Electric Days 2023 and for the opening day the protagonist was the discussion between insiders, intellectuals and institutions on the future of the car.
Among the institutional interventions also that of the councilor for Mobility of the Capitoline council, Eugenio Patanè, who illustrated all the challenges planned to make a metropolis like Rome more sustainable. “The two priorities – commented Patané – are the construction of all infrastructures for rail mobility and to discourage private transport in favor of different means of transport. All the large European cities are on the same wavelength, even with specificities different. Rome is thirteen times bigger than Paris but mobility policies are all going in the same direction. We need a redistribution of the physical space of the streets, today totally dedicated to cars, which then remain stationary 92% of the time”.
On the local front of mobility, Rome will see many innovations in the coming years. “The face of the city will change with events such as the Jubilee and the Expo – continued Patané – which will bring resources. We have a plan to revolutionize rail transport, from trams to metro lines. We need reasoning oriented towards intermodality”.
In view of the transition to electric mode, the theme of recharging infrastructures was also a theme of the first interventions at Electric Days 2023. “What has been done – Patané said again about Rome – is not enough, because the area of Rome it is immense and we have to serve all areas with capillarity. The plans of the past are insufficient because they leave holes in the city. Eur and Ostia, for example, are electrified. The areas in between, however, do not even have a column. We are planning measures to expand the number of columns and make the procedures for activating them simpler”.
