Federmotorizzazione, +26% registrations in the first 4 months

“In the first four months of 2023, car registrations increased by 26% compared to the same period of 2022. However, we are definitely far from the pre-covid data”. This was stated by the president of Federmotorizzazione Simonpaolo Buongiardino, speaking at the event of Federmotorizzazione Confcommercio, in collaboration with the Lombardy Region, entitled “Mobility 2035 between ideology and reality”.

The consolidation of this recovery “will depend on numerous factors, including the availability of new cars, the trend of the incentives launched this year and the Italians’ propensity to buy”, explained Buongiardino. As for the electric vehicle, the current dimensions “are far from the possibility of starting a replacement”, underlines the president of Federmotorizzazione, also recalling electric vehicles had lost ground in 2022 compared to 2021, while, “in these first four months of 2023 we have recorded a recovery”, although, it is “modest” in absolute value. The difficulties first of all concern “the price of electric cars, which is 40% more than a petrol car”, accompanied by the “lack of recharging infrastructures and uncertainty about the car’s value over time”. explains Buongiardino, then highlighting the “general doubts about the definitive choice of electric that are beginning to make their way in a part of the European Union”.

Bearing in mind that a new confirmation evaluation is expected in 2026 and, with a renewed European Parliament, Buongiardino hopes that “common sense will prevail, saving the internal combustion engine, which feeds a thriving Italian components business, without CO2 emissions and freeing us from the risk of Chinese hegemony”.
