Woman of Worth Award 2023 is Astrid Linder She invented the female dummy to improve crash-tests Astrid Linder, creator of the world’s first female dummy for crash-tests intended to improve car safety, won the Woman of Worth Award. This is the prize for women of value, relating to the year 2023 and awarded by the journalists who are part of the jury of the Women’s World Car of the Year (Wwcoty).
The only automotive award in the world to be voted exclusively by women specialized in automotive journalism (there are 65 from 47 different countries) the Wwcoty was created by New Zealander Sandy Myhre in 2009 (she is currently the honorary president while Marta García has the executive role). The 2023 Woman of Worth Award recipient, Astrid Linder, was chosen from 15 entries in the running. You coordinated the Adseat project, funded by the EU, in which EvaRID was developed which is the first mannequin in the world ready to represent women during rear impact in crash-tests.
Previously, the dummies – i.e. in mannequins equipped with sensors and with dimensions and mass identical to humans – were based only on the average male, and represented – reads the note of Wwcoty – “an example of prejudice in the design of cars and their drivers , which could consequently put women’s lives at risk”.
Linder is a professor of road safety at the Swedish National Institute of Roads and Transport, as well as an adjunct professor of accident prevention at Chalmers University and an associate professor at the Monash University Accident Research Centre, Melbourne Australia.
He received his PhD in traffic safety from Chalmers University, where he also earned a master’s degree in engineering physics. She has been honored at the EU Champions of Transport Research and was awarded the US government award for excellence in safety engineering, as well as many other accolades received for her work. “Never as this year – said Marta Garcia, executive president of Women’s World Car of the Year – the number of nominations has been so extraordinary. Astrid Linder has distinguished herself in the votes. It is an honor for us to have this recognition: for today it is the only one voted entirely by women experts in the automotive sector”.
