Twitter fooled the US authorities about its cybersecurity defenses and fake accounts. To denounce the company that chirps is the mole Peiter Zatko, renowned hacker and former manager of the social media, according to whom the “serious deficiencies and negligence” covered up put national security and democracy at risk. He has heavy accusations that threaten to threaten the lawsuit initiated by Twitter against Elon Musk to force him to buy the company.

Zatko, known in the cyber world as ‘Mudge’, filed a complaint with the SEC, the Justice Department, the Federal Trade Commission and some members of Congress on July 6 to denounce Twitter. Banned from social media last January, the former manager described the company as chaotic and helpless, unable to properly protect its 238 million daily users, including government agencies and heads of state. And accused her of violating the 2011 agreement with the FTC (the TLC authority) on the protection of user data, of having deceived the authorities about identifying and removing fake or spam accounts, including those which could be used for foreign interference and disinformation. Zatko went so far as to accuse Twitter of having foreign agents with “direct access to user data” on his payroll. Earlier this month, a company employee was found guilty of spying on Saudi Arabia by providing data from Riyadh’s critical users to the country’s authorities.
