Despite the inflationary context and the war in Ukraine, French exports are not affected by the crisis. The latter increased by 20% in 2022 compared to 2021, to reach an amount of 440 billion euros. However, the French trade balance remains catastrophic, with an estimated hole of 150 billion euros for 2022.

According to the latest estimates, France will post a trade balance deficit of 150 billion euros this year. A rather disturbing record. However, there is good news!
Pre-Covid levels exceeded this year
Over the first three quarters of 2022, French exports increased by 20% compared to last year, to reach an amount of 440 billion euros. Another positive point, France now has 140,000 exporting companies, a record for 20 years. All of the areas that export even exceeded their 2019 level, before the health crisis.
And on the side of SMEs, certain sectors are progressing very quickly, such as “sectors which are recognized for French excellence, such as the wine and spirits sector. Thousands of operators manage to export”, underlines the general manager of Business France, Christophe Lecourtier.
Take advantage of the “Made in France image”
“The second export item: cosmetics and health. But the image of Made in France is a great passport to go abroad. At the other end of the spectrum, there are technology companies. That too, it is exported”, he explains at the microphone of Europe 1.
Despite everything, the battle for foreign trade is far from over, as France has the worst trade balance in the entire euro zone.
