Small and medium-sized publishers, more than 100 million euros in sales

ROME – More than 100 million euros in sales in 2021, without considering Christmas, compared to 2019. It is the growth at the cover price of medium and small publishing in the trade channels, that is to say bookstores, online and large distribution, in 11 months, for various books. This is according to a first data from the survey by the AIE Studies Office, in collaboration with NielsenIQ, which will be presented at the meeting ‘Small and medium-sized publishing between 2019 and 2021. Just say’ indie ‘?’, On 4 December at 12 to Più libri più libero, the national fair of small and medium publishing of the Italian Publishers Association, until 8 December at the Nuvola dell’Eur, in Rome. The research shows how small and medium publishing is a complex and articulated publishing sector by size of turnover and titles published, with specific dynamics and profiles. A starting point for all the subsequent reflections that will cross the professional program of this special edition of the Fair, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary, which will be moderated by Sabina Minardi (L’Espresso), Renata Gorgani (Editrice Il Castoro), Diego Guida (Guida Editori – president of the Aie small publishers group), Gerardo Mastrullo (La Vita Felice) and Giovanni Peresson (Aie Studies Office). Insights that will also be the background to the appointment, on 5 December at 3.30 pm in Sala Aldus, ‘Professione editore’, in which the Council of small publishers of Aie will take stock of the most current issues for small publishing: from the proposals for the law system to those to make the publishing chain more efficient.
