Around this “acquittal” revolves the new work by Marco Mengoni, Materia (Terra), released on December 3 by Epic Records Italy / Sony Music Italy and which arrives more than two years after the Atlantic multiplatinum.
The disc – 11 tracks, which become 13 in the cd version – is the beginning of a new path, the first stage of a more complex project, which began two and a half years ago. “Materia will consist of three albums – says the artist from Ronciglione -, each of which will tell about three different souls, three sound worlds that all represent me together, from my origins to what I have become today”. Terra – which was anticipated by the single produced by Mace Cambia un uomo currently on the radio and by Ma tonight, the hit of the summer – starts from the roots, family and musical, and relives the singer’s memories, listenings and reflections between soul, funk and blues, which belong to him since childhood, with the past that is founded with the present to understand, without ever judging, first of all ourselves and everything that happens around us. “The whole album talks about patience, the one that my mother to whom I dedicate the song Luce and all the work tried to teach me, of loneliness, which I experienced during the lockdown, and of forgiveness. Even towards myself, which too often I am was arrogant and judgmental.

A forgiveness and a move forward, therefore, through the changes and taking the right time to design a new Mengoni, more adult and aware of himself and of his music for a record that he defines “right” and which he presented last night live at Milan, in front of 100 guests and accompanied by a band of nine elements. “I don’t know if it’s perfect or imperfect, good or bad, but I know it’s right. Something you can’t say no to, like drinking or eating. It was a psychological need, a story to which it wasn’t enough to dedicate just one record.
