Alessandra De Vita, Acid Suites

ALESSANDRA DE VITA, SUITES ACIDE. STORIES OF BROKEN GIRLS (Talking boxes, pp. 96, 12 euro)

There are three young ‘broken’ women, unresolved but tenacious in their personal search for happiness at the center of “Acid Suites”, the literary debut by Alessandra De Vita published by Scatole speakers. In the three stories that make up the book, the author focuses her attention on the precariousness – existential, affective, professional – which undermines all certainty and makes one go ahead by trial and error, while one navigates between broken dreams, conquests, loneliness and passions. In a narrative divided into dance times similar to those of the Baroque suites, the difficult everyday life and continuous attempts to become independent of the three protagonists are revealed: the twenty-year-old Isabel, struggling with a late-adolescent love story with bitter implications, Giulia with her professional ambitions and Mia, undecided whether to return to her family in Germany or cling to a present made up of scholarships. In the book there are no common women, but, as Manuela De Vito writes in the preface, “We others. Those who are not satisfied, who do not give up on the daily grind, those who have a vision that, although sometimes distorted, is the their vision, their idea of realization, of journey, of knowledge, in a word of happiness “.
