The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said this Monday that he intends to conclude a Mercosur agreement with European Union until the end of this semester, but he added that he should not keep the current terms of the treaty.
In a statement to the press after a meeting with the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, Lula said that the Brazil he will have flexibility in negotiations, a disposition he said he expected from Europeans.
“We are going to work very, very hard so that we can complete this agreement. Something has to be changed, it cannot be done as it is”, said the president.
When addressing the issue of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Lula expressed the desire that Germany contribute to the organization’s functioning again.
