Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that the former head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupitsky was supposed to take part in the legitimization of the fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

Danilov spoke about this in an interview with Channel 24.

Details

According to him, Ukraine began to prepare for a full-scale war against Russia since February 2021, when the first decision of the National Security and Defense Council concerned the former chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupytsky.

“When the first decision of the National Security and Defense Council concerned Mr. Tupitsky, who received a statement in December last year allegedly from Mr. Yanukovych, who has nothing to do with our country for the last 8 years. In the Russian Federation, there was a project to return Yanukovych through a legal procedure through our courts, OASK. This a proven fact. Only those people who close their eyes and have no desire to deal with it now do not understand this, “said Danilov.

He added that these judges should testify to the Security Service of Ukraine today.

“But now we are at the stage of war and some Gauleiters have not yet reached the hands,” the NSDC secretary said.

Court allows Yanukovych to be arrested again

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv on May 23 allowed take into custody ex-president Viktor Yanukovych in the case of the signing of the so-called Kharkiv agreements of 2010.

According to the investigation, Yanukovych, in collusion with the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, “provided assistance to a foreign state – the Russian Federation and its representatives in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.”

The statement of the Office of the Prosecutor General says that on April 21, 2010, while in Kharkiv, Yanukovych signed on behalf of Ukraine an agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which extended the stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine – the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol for 25 years, instead of preparations for his withdrawal from the territory of Ukraine.

As a result of such actions, prerequisites were created for increasing the number of troops of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, their re-equipment and modernization, and in the future – the invasion of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and their occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

With the participation of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv on May 23 chose a measure of restraint for the fugitive ex-president in the form of detention in criminal proceedings on the circumstances of his committing high treason.

Back in 2021, the State Bureau of Investigation announced to Yanukovych and Azarov that they were suspected of high treason for signing the Kharkiv agreements. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from twelve to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.
