Run over by police cars, an Italian died in Palma Mallorca

(ANSA) – LURAS, 02 JUN – A 35-year-old young man from Gallura lost his life in Palma de Mallorca after being hit by a local police car. The accident occurred on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, in the Passeig Sagrera area, when for reasons to be ascertained a police car hit three passers-by. Among them Mario Decandia, a waiter with origins between Tempio Pausania and Luras but transplanted to the Balearics for years.
According to initial information, the young man had just finished his shift in a restaurant not far from the accident site and was walking with two other foreign colleagues. Suddenly the group was overwhelmed by the police car which, according to local press reports, was engaged in an urgent service at the time of the accident.
Four ambulances intervened on the spot and the young man was immediately transferred to the university hospital of Son Espases, where he died following the very serious injuries sustained in the impact. The two friends who were with him were injured.
The news of the 35-year-old’s disappearance shocked the community of Luras, the birthplace of the boy’s mother. “Today was a very sad awakening – said the mayor Mauro Azzena to ANSA – I heard some of Mario’s family members to offer them the condolences of all of us, it is a great tragedy that has deeply affected us”.
