Citizenship income: hundreds of suspects for fraud

(ANSA) – PALERMO, JUL 13 – An operation, codenamed “Cash Point”, against hundreds of people who allegedly received citizenship income illegally was coordinated by the Caltanissetta prosecutor. Agents of the Digos of the Police Headquarters carried out an order issued by the investigating judge at the Court with which the interdicting measure of the temporary ban on entrepreneurial activity was applied to four owners of commercial businesses. The four traders are accused of numerous episodes of aggravated fraud against INPS in material and moral competition with over one hundred subjects, Italian and non-EU citizens, all recipients of the economic subsidy. In the order it is contested that the recipients of the Citizenship Income, currently under investigation, after having received the credit of the subsidy on their card, would have gone to compliant commercial establishments which, through simulated purchase operations, would have allowed, in contrast to current legislation, to convert a large part of the sum disbursed by INPS into money. According to the investigation carried out by the judicial police, the alleged fictitious transactions, in the space of just three months, would have amounted to over 125 thousand euros.

The investigative activity started in June 2021, in addition to the traditional observation and shadowing investigation techniques, was also carried out with the aid of video footage at commercial establishments and investigations at competent offices (INPS, Post Offices and Banking Institutions ). In particular, images of the recipients of the subsidy were recorded who, on the crediting days and those immediately following, seemed to leave the shops, apparently without having made any purchases and, in some cases, with banknotes or electronic payment cards. in hands. During the searches carried out inside the shops, citizenship income cards belonging to various subjects were seized and further investigations are underway. (HANDLE).
