Fires: Piedmont, a state of maximum danger for forests

Olympics 2026, Hall:

(ANSA) – TURIN, 19 JUL – The Piedmont Region has declared the state of maximum danger for forest fires throughout the region starting tomorrow, Thursday 21 July. The measure, as the Region itself explains, “was necessary in consideration of the meteorological conditions highlighted by the Arpa Functional Center (Regional Agency for Environmental Protection) Piedmont, which are highly predisposing to the risk and spread of forest fires”. The situation, continues the Region, “is aggravated by the heavy drought that hit Piedmont – so much so that the Council of Ministers approved the declaration of a state of emergency until 31 December 2022 – and in these conditions, the triggering and propagation of fires would involve a huge and unquantifiable withdrawal of water for extinguishing “.

“We are facing a very particular situation – underlines the regional councilor for Civil Protection, Marco Gabusi – in which more factors converge which unfortunately favor fires to a greater extent than in past summers. For this reason, for some days now, the Civil Protection of the Piedmont Region has further strengthened its operational device for the fight against fires, consisting of Firefighters and Volunteers of the Aib Piemonte Corps. The helicopter service was also increased, through the activation of a second operational base in Costigliole d’Asti , in addition to that of Busano nel Canavese, for greater coverage of the area that is ready to be found. I would also like to remind you that each of us can do something in preventing fires by promptly reporting fire outbreaks to the single emergency number 112 “. (HANDLE).
