Caporalato: laborers denounce, Gip suspends entrepreneur

(ANSA) – CATANIA, 20 JUL – He paid four Moroccan laborers 150-200 euros per month, compared to the 1,000 euros provided for by collective agreements, and allegedly demanded 8,000 euros from them, threatening their dismissal, under the pretext of having to use them to obtain their regularization by starting the practice in the prefecture. This is the accusation contested by the Public Prosecutor of Catania against an agricultural entrepreneur from Paternò under investigation for exploitation of work and extortion. Against him the carabinieri of the Labor Inspectorate Unit, supported by the soldiers of the Paternò company, carried out a disqualification measure ordered by the Gip which imposes the suspension from the exercise of the business activity for one year.

According to the Public Prosecutor, from the investigations of the military of the Nil of Catania, supported by the company of the Arma di Paternò, the entrepreneur would have “forced” the four laborers to “carry out grueling shifts, without the recognition of holidays, weekly rest periods and allowances. ancillary and in violation of every rule regarding safety and hygiene in the workplace “. The investigation was born from the denunciation of the four Moroccans employed by the entrepreneur, supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as part of the DiAgrAmmi Sud project funded by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, on whose declarations they originated the investigations in response to the carabinieri.

During the searches delegated to the Arma by the Prosecutor’s Office on land belonging to the farm, in Ramacca and Paternò, six other workers were identified, of which four were illegally employed. The entrepreneur was further reported for this latest violation. (HANDLE).
