(ANSA) – GENOA, AUGUST 18 – Hailstones as big as walnuts, winds up to 120 km per hour, tornadoes and heavy rain hit the whole of central Liguria between Genoa and Tigullio in the early morning. On the heights of Genoa up to three cm of rain fell in just a few minutes. In some hamlets of the La Spezia area, the hail broke windows in the houses, destroyed fruit trees, vegetable gardens and crops. The most important damage, at the moment, in the Tigullio where, in addition to the railway traffic which is still suspended due to damage to the electricity network and materials transported on the tracks, the fury of the wind has caused trees and branches to fall on the Aurelia and on the A12 between Recco and Rapallo where shortly after 8 o’clock, 2 km of queue for branches and small trunks ended up on the roadway, queue now resolved.
