(ANSA) – ROCCELLA JONICA, 20 AUG – New landing of migrants at the port of Roccella Jonica, in Locrice, the third in the last five days and the second in 24 hours. After the 244 between Egyptians and Syrians last Tuesday and the 28 yesterday, today 100 migrants arrived rescued by the Roccella Coast Guard directed by the ship’s lieutenant, Tommaso D’Arpino. The group includes half a dozen women and several minors, some of them unaccompanied.

The migrants were aboard a small drifting sailboat that left about a week ago from the coast of Libya intercepted in the night after a rescue call arrived at around 10 pm yesterday evening. Once they reached the boat, the Coast Guard soldiers transhipped migrants on the patrol boat in view of the heavy seas.

After disembarking, the refugees were subjected to the anticovid molecular swab test and subsequently temporarily placed in the tensile structure managed by the volunteers of the Red Cross and Civil Protection. With today’s one, the number of landings in Locride in 2022 has risen to 41.
