Variant, vaccination, pensions … What will contain Macron’s speech on Monday evening

The President of the Republic will address the French on Monday evening from 8 p.m. He will discuss the health situation, which is still worrying with the sword of Damocles represented by the Delta variant, but also certain reforms left in suspense by the crisis.

The Elysee Palace announced Friday evening that Emmanuel Macron would speak Monday at 8 p.m. on television on the health situation, after a new Defense Council. This speech could disrupt the holidays of the French, while the executive has already advised against traveling this week to Spain and Portugal where Covid-19 contaminations are on the rise again under the effect of the Delta variant. But the Head of State could also mention the major projects of the five-year term left fallow by the health crisis, in particular the pension reform.

Compulsory vaccination of caregivers

Emmanuel Macron must first and foremost speak out on the issue of the resumption of the epidemic and the threat of the Delta variant. This threat could have social and economic consequences. The Head of State must also announce decisions on the compulsory vaccination of caregivers, the extension of the health pass or even the strengthening of border controls.

What about the pension reform?

Then, Emmanuel Macron should return to all the unfinished projects of the last few weeks and in particular on the pension reform, which we still do not know if it will see the light of day before the end of the five-year term.

Find a new lease of life after the failure of the regional

Also Monday evening, the President of the Republic will receive the parliamentarians of the majority, that is to say those of his party, the Republic on the march, and their allies. The exchanges promise to be difficult, especially after the heavy defeat in the regional elections, which caused serious internal tensions. Finally, the Elysee had announced a cabinet reshuffle two weeks ago. If he still wishes to do so, Emmanuel Macron should therefore make known the new composition of his team before Wednesday, in order to have a new full government for July 14.
