Hitler salute and swastika: right crimes at German schools have increased significantly

According to a media report, the number of right crimes at German schools has increased significantly. The police recorded the highest increase within one year in Saxony-Anhalt, as a query of the “Stern” published on Thursday at the state criminal offices. There, the recorded right offenses rose by 150 percent to 185 in 2024.

Rhineland-Palatinate therefore reported 45 cases and 80 percent more than in the previous year, Berlin 111 cases, which corresponds to an increase of 42 percent. Most right -wing crimes at schools in absolute figures were counted with 336 cases in Brandenburg, which was around 30 percent more than 2023.

Most actions, according to the state criminal offices, are the use of license plates of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. According to “Stern”, there is a swastika carved into the school desk or a Hitler greeting in the school yard. But the use of right -wing extremists in class chats is therefore increasingly becoming a problem.

According to the report, uniform nationwide detection criteria for right -wing crimes in schools are not available. The federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg, Hesse and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and North Rhine-Westphalia do not record them separately in their police statistics. (AFP)
