SPD criticizes Koaliton partner: “The Union makes it far too easy to compulsory conscription”

Mr. Droßmann, how does your SPD keep it with the compulsory military service ended in 2011? Is she coming back?
It remains exposed until the Bundestag makes a different decision.

Your coalition partner would like to meet them. CDU and CSU refer to the tense security situation and the new NATO requirements, which are officially decided at the upcoming summit. Are you not right if the troop is now missing instead of 20,000 and 80,000 soldiers?
The Union makes it far too easy when it comes to compulsory military service. First and foremost, the soldier’s profession must be more attractive in order to achieve the troop strength we demand. This also brings more volunteers to the new military service model that we have agreed on in the coalition agreement.

With the wording of the “initially” voluntary service, your party has indirectly approved an obligation if the numbers are too low.
That’s correct. We do not categorically exclude a reintroduction of conscription. But: The SPD will not agree with any serious intervention in the life planning of the young men of this country before not everything has been done for a more attractive troop in which we do not have to force people into.

What kind of attractiveness program do you have in mind?
There are many starting points. We need different service models, individually tailored to the interested parties. You need some predictability for yourself and your families and should know where to use when.

If you serve in the Bundeswehr, you should be able to get your driver’s license there for free, who is applying, experience a facing troop that does not need an answer forever.

Anyone who jeopardizes their health or life for our country has to get a significantly higher soldier than before.

Falko Droßmann About the salaries in the Bundeswehr

Holded showers in barracks must be a thing of the past. And of course it is about more money: if you jeopardize your health or life for our country, you have to get a significantly higher soldier than before.

Which plus can you imagine?
It must be a strong plus. Incidentally, this is one reason why the Union wants to go the supposedly simpler path of a new compulsory compulsory. It shy away from having to explain the higher salaries of other public service professional groups.

Isn’t one reason that the implementation of the measures you have described takes years? New barracks, new structures, new laws.
The SPD cannot accept that it should be easier in Germany to introduce a mandatory service than to build new barracks.

In the 2022 energy crisis, it was possible to build a liquid gas minals in the new “Germany Tempo”. I have managed an authority myself and say: that works. If in doubt, the Bundeswehr should build its new buildings itself.

When does the SPD say that it is not possible without a certain proportion of conscripts? If the Bundeswehr wants to be fully operational by 2029, it is difficult to find out in 2027 not to have come far enough.
There is no fixed time for such a decision. We Social Democrats have to be convinced that everything else has been tried to achieve the new personnel goal.

I thought to save yourself the effort and now immediately go to the legislative procedure to reactivate military service.

Do you know that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius belongs to your party?
My appeal is particularly aimed at him: I expect Boris Pistorius that he now quickly presents measures for a more attractive Bundeswehr, but I trust him.

From the Union I expect to have his work done instead of always reproaching the discussion about a quick reintroduction of military service.
