Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) defends herself against criticism of her decision not to hoist the rainbow flag to the Berlin Christopher Street on the Reichstag building. “The rainbow flag debate has lost in size and middle”said Klöckner of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Thursday). One cannot “hoist flags with every good and important occasion”. For example, there is the Orange Day against violence against women. That is “an important concern, but we don’t have the associated flag” there either “said the CDU politician.
For the international day against the discrimination against queer people on May 17th, the Bundestag led under the direction of Klöckner had the rainbow flag blowing in the Reichstag building. Klöckner had announced that that May 17th will be the only reason for the rainbow flag on the Reichstag building in the future.
In the interview, the Bundestag President also discussed the debate about her criticism of daily political statements in the churches. The criticism of her interview “had hardly anything to do with what I had actually said,” complained Klöckner. “I am a member of the Catholic Church, I am studied theologian, I pay church taxes. Many who criticized me did not read the interview and are not in the church themselves. And it includes my picture of the church that she also questions herself why she loses more and more members, ”said the CDU politician of the“ Süddeutsche Zeitung ”. (EPD)
