(ANSA-AFP) – ROME, MARCH 01 – Russian and Belarusian skaters have been declared unwelcome in all skating competitions. This was announced by the International Skating Union (Isu), adding that it is a measure taken “with immediate effect and until further notice”. “In accordance with the IOC’s recommendation, the International Olympic Committee, the ISU” agreed that no “Russian or Belarusian” skaters will be invited or authorized to participate in the events organized “by the federation.
Russia is a leading figure skating nation, where it won six medals including two gold medals at the Beijing Games last month. Speed skating and short track events are also affected by this measure.
