(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 23 – Season debut with victory for Massimo Stano. The Olympic gold triumphs with an amazing final comeback in Dudince (Slovakia) and qualifies for the Eugene World Championships in the 35 km walk: in the very classic Dudinska50 he lays down the law with a time of 2h29: 09 on the new international distance that will make his world championship debut in July in Oregon and falls well below the 2h33: 00 required, also offering a splendid demonstration of form in view of a season full of commitments.

The blue of the Fiamme Oro – gold in Tokyo on 20 km – was back on the longest distance after more than three years from the first (and only) time in his career at Gioiosa Marea in 2019 (2h35: 03). With a test in progression and launching himself in a masterful final in which he shows off his entire class in the last 5 km (completed in a super 20:18, with an average of less than 4:05 per km), he resumes the two opponents who had him detached at -11 km (the Mexican Jose Luis Doctor and the Chinese He Xianghong) and flies, unleashed, towards victory.

It is the confirmation that even on this distance (which replaced the ‘fifty’) he will be able to excel at international level and that the plan studied with the coach Patrizio Parcesepe will be able to materialize: he will do the 35 km at the World Championships in July in the United States and then the 20 km at the European Championships in Munich in August.

A Dudince precedes the Mexican Doctor (2h29: 24) recovering the almost forty seconds of delay accused in the passage to the thirtieth kilometer. Third the Chinese He (2h29: 35). The other blue Teodorico Caporaso (Virtus Emilsider Bologna) also hits the standard for the World Cup, fourteenth at the finish line with 2h32: 19. Further back Michele Antonelli (Air Force) nineteenth in 2:33:59 and Stefano Chiesa (Carabinieri) twenty-ninth with a time of 2:38:17. Fifty-second Aldo Andrei (Quercia Trentingrana, 2h55: 33). In the women’s competition the Chinese Qieyang Shijie, Olympic silver in the ‘twenty’ in London and twice on the world podium wins: 2h43: 06, in front of the Peruvian Kimberly Garcia Leon (2h43: 19) and the other Chinese Li Maocuo (2h45: 46), the world silver of the ‘fifty’.
