(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 25 – The Dutch Marianne Vos won the yellow jersey at the women’s Tour de France by winning the second stage in a three-way sprint in front of the Italian Silvia Persico, who turns 25 today, and the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma. Fourth the other blue Elisa Longo Borghini, while Marta Cavalli retired: the winner of the Amstel Gold and of the Freccia Vallone 20220 was the main victim of one of the numerous falls that occurred in the last 40 of the 136 km of the fraction between Meaux and Provins .
Sixth place for the Dutch Lorena Wiebes, who had started the stage as a leader but was unable to enter the group of fugitives who fought for the sprint, and arrived 29 seconds late. Vos leads the overall standings with 10 seconds ahead of Persico and 12 over Niewiadoma. Tomorrow’s third stage, 133.6km across the Champagne region from Reims to Epernay, will still be a hunting ground for sprinters. (HANDLE).
