Tennis: Kyrgios is reborn in Washington, Nishioka beaten in the final

(ANSA-AFP) – WASHINGTON, 08 AUG – Nick Kyrgios, number 63 in the world rankings and finalist at the last Wimbledon, won for the second time in his career – after 2019 – the cement tournament held in Washington, beating the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (96) for 6-4, 6-3. The 27-year-old Australian tennis player confirmed his rebirth after two rather dark years, characterized by depression and suicidal instincts.

For Kyrgios this is the seventh title in his career, after those he won in Marseille, Atlanta and Tokyo (2016), Brisbane (2017), Acapulco in 2019 and Washington in the same year.

Kyrgios, who appeared slightly calmer on the pitch than in previous days, did not leave the slightest chance to Nishioka, who had beaten Russian Andrey Rublev in the semifinals the day before.

The Japanese has always found himself chasing, but never worried the opponent, formidable in the serve (12 aces).

Kyrgios, who also finished the tournament without having suffered the slightest break, won in 1h21 ‘. (ANSA-AFP).
