In the first DBBL season: Alba’s basketball players qualify for the playoffs early

The women’s basketball team from Alba Berlin qualified early for the play-offs in their first season in the Bundesliga. In front of 1373 fans in the Charlottenburg Sömmeringhalle on Saturday, the promoted women clearly won against the bottom of the table from Marburg. The 81:64 was Alba’s eighth victory in the DBBL, but one success was removed from the ranking due to the bankruptcy of the Rheinland Lions.

With a record of 7:8, the Berliners are in seventh place three games before the end of the main round. The top eight teams participate in the playoffs. “In the last few weeks we’ve grown even closer as a team,” said winger Nina Rosemeyer.

For Alba it is the next premiere after the first promotion to the Bundesliga. The fact that reaching the play-offs with only ten teams remaining in the league is much easier than in a season of 18, as is the case in the men’s Bundesliga, does not diminish Alba’s joy. After the win against Marburg, the players celebrated indoors with the fans and immortalized the moment in a team photo.

In the remaining three games, Alba is now trying to get the best possible starting position for the play-offs. With a strong final spurt, the Berliners could perhaps improve to fourth or fifth place. However, Alba is still up against Keltern in second place and Nördlingen in third place. For now, however, a longer break awaits the team. Due to international matches and a weekend without games, the next appearance is not due until February 24th. Then Nördlingen is a guest in the Sömmeringhalle.
