(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 01 – The outcome of the referendum at the Amazon plant in Bessemer, Alabama, will be decided by a judge in a federal hearing. The Wall Street Journal reports it, underlining however that the majority of the votes counted indicates a rejection, the second, of the idea of a unionization of the plant’s employees. The preliminary results of the vote show a no-win with 993 votes compared to 875 in favor of the union. However, there are 416 disputed votes. During the hearing it will be decided who to assign the disputed votes. The hypothesis of a union had already been rejected in 2021 by the employees of the plant, but the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union had appealed on the outcome of the vote influenced by Amazon’s pressure on employees to say no. The National Labor Relations Board had sided with the Rwdsu and had ruled that the referendum had to be redone. (HANDLE).
