The astronaut showed an “alien” photo of the Earth from the ISS: millions of people are surprised

NASA astronaut Josh Kassada has published a photo of the planet Earth, which in his picture looks like an alien world from a science fiction movie. What made his photo special was the green-blue aurora that enveloped our planet.

Made Kassada published on his personal Twitter page, which caused admiration from millions of readers. They were amazed at how unrecognizable Earth can be from space. (Scroll to the bottom of the page to view photos.)

Kassada, obviously, was also struck by what he saw, leaving him without words. To describe what he saw, he could find only two words.

“Absolutely unrealistic” – wrote astronaut under the photo, which was viewed by more than 2 million Twitter users.

In the photo, the Earth seems to be hanging upside down in the endless darkness of space, and its atmosphere is illuminated by the incredible colors of the aurora, which earthlings could observe the other day. Many vivid photos of this event can be viewed here.

The images also show lights in cities that have not yet been covered by the “fog” of the aurora.

Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy named shot of Kassada “totally incredible.” But he added that this photo shows how far into space the aurora extends.

In addition, the impressive photo also included the solar panels of the ISS, which creates the appearance that an alien ship is flying towards the planet.

Another interesting detail in the picture is the bright white Sun with a bluish tint. Although it is well known that people see it as yellow due to the Earth’s atmosphere, it still makes the photo unrealistic and makes you think of a planet from another solar system.

Other users who left comments under the astronaut’s post were also struck by the compositional complexity of the photo taken, since usually in space photos that were not combined from several frames, you can see either the shining sun or stars, while Kassady managed to simultaneously adjust the frame not only on the Sun and the star, but also on the aurora and night lights on the planet.

Kassada is a member of the SpaceX Crew-5 mission, which has been on the ISS since October 2022. Already this month, as planned, he will return to Earth.
