(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 09 – Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmajo, has formally announced on Twitter his candidacy for a second term in view of the presidential elections, set for 15 May.
Farmajo said that he is re-applying in “response to the Somali people’s appeal”, pledging to continue “on the path of progress and development”.
Farmajo’s first presidential term expired in February last year, but the head of state remained in office due to the postponement of parliamentary elections. Farmajo has to deal with several candidates, including two former presidents. (HANDLE).
