(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 14 – Portugal has blocked the sale of a 10 million euro villa owned by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The newspaper Publico writes it.
The property is located in the exclusive resort of Quinta do Lago in the Algarve, and the sale – says the newspaper – was already blocked on 25 March at the request of the foreign ministry of Lisbon.
Abramovich, who is suffering from international sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, tried to sell the villa 15 days before the start of the Moscow offensive through the agency Millhouse Views LLC, which is based in Delaware (USA ) and is his property. Authorities have been alerted by Caixa General de Depositos, the largest Portuguese bank, Publico writes. The bank declined to comment.
Abramovich has also been a Portuguese citizen since last year, on the basis of a law that offers naturalization to the descendants of Sephardi Jews expelled from the Iberian Peninsula during the Inquisition. (HANDLE).
