After intense fighting, Russia claims full control of Mariupol

Last Ukrainian fighters who were at the Azovstal steel mill surrendered on Friday, according to state agency.

Steelworks in Mariupol was the last stronghold of Ukrainian resistance in the city

THE Russia informed this Friday, 20th, that it managed to capture the coastal city of Mariupolat Ukraine. This is the biggest victory of the invasion since it began on February 24th. The three-month offensive left Mariupol in ruins and with more than 20,000 civilians dead. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed the president Vladimir Putin that the steel mill Azovstal had ‘complete liberation’ after the withdrawal of Ukrainian civilians and military. According to Russian state agency RIA Novosti, 2,439 Ukrainian fighters who were at the plant surrendered on Monday and another 500 left on Friday. The site has been the center of attacks in recent weeks. Ukraine has not confirmed ownership of the city. Throughout the day, fighting is concentrated in the Donbas region.
