(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 05 – The annual NATO military exercise in the Baltic Sea kicks off today and until June 17 with the participation of 16 countries, the 14 members of the Alliance and Sweden and Finland, which have recently applied for membership, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. The Baltops exercise, now in its 51st edition, will kick off in Stockholm on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Swedish Navy.
The tactical maneuvers will then take place in the Baltic Sea and in the region’s airspace, ending in Kiel, Germany.
Over 4,000 military, maritime assault troops, more than 60 aircraft and 40 ships of various classes will be involved. (HANDLE).
