More than 100 migrants were rescued this morning off the Greek island of Mykonos, in the Aegean Sea, while four are missing. This was announced by the Greek coast guard.
Port police responded to a distress call by sending three boats and a tugboat to help migrants aboard a boat in distress after leaving Turkey. The Coast Guard stated that 108 people were saved and four are missing. The exact number of people on board is not confirmed due to contradictory information provided by those who were rescued, he added. Immigration Minister Notis Mitarachi has called on Ankara to do a better job of protecting human lives and eradicating smuggling networks.
A source from the Ministry of Immigration said migratory flows to the Greek islands in the first 4 months of 2022 were almost 30% higher than in the same period last year.
