Afghanistan: Isis claims attack on the Sikh temple in Kabul

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack on the Sikh temple in Kabul, Afghanistan, in which a member of the community and a Taliban fighter died, saying it was a retaliation for the insults against the Prophet Mohammed. Protests in several Muslim countries erupted following comments made in early June by a spokeswoman for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party on the relationship between the Prophet and his younger wife, Aisha.
In a message published via its propaganda organ Amaq, ISIS said the attack was aimed at Hindus, Sikhs and the “apostates” who protect them. ISIS then said that one of its fighters “entered a temple for Hindu and Sikh polytheists in Kabul, after killing the guard, and opened fire on the pagans inside with a machine gun and grenades”: two people they were killed, while 7 were wounded. The attack came following a visit by an Indian delegation to Kabul to discuss the distribution of humanitarian aid from India to Afghanistan.
