(ANSA) – PARIS, June 23 – Over 150 cultural sites have been partially or completely destroyed in 4 months of war in Ukraine, according to what UNESCO, the United Nations Organization for Science, Education and the culture.
“According to the checks carried out by the experts – reads a Unesco statement – 152 cultural sites have been partially or completely destroyed by the fighting. Among these, 50 religious sites, 30 historic buildings, 18 cultural centers, 15 monuments, 12 museums and 7 libraries “.
Three quarters of the damage recorded after February 24, the date of the beginning of the Russian invasion, are concentrated in three regions: those of Donetsk (45 sites affected), Kharkiv (40) and Kiev (26), explains UNESCO. “These repeated attacks on Ukrainian cultural sites must stop – said the director general Audrey Azoulay – cultural heritage, in all its forms, should in no case be targeted”.
