(ANSA) – COLOMBO, JUL 15 – The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been sworn in as interim president of the country and Parliament will elect the new president on July 20, after the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa: they announced today the offices of the premier and speaker of the Parliament.
Nominations for the office of president will be received next Tuesday and deputies will vote the next day, said the office of speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. Meanwhile, 73-year-old Wickremesinghe was sworn in before Chief Judge Jayantha Jayasuriya, the office told him in a short statement. (HANDLE).
