Gb: London firefighters never so busy with wartime fires

(ANSA) – LONDON, JULY 20 – The London firefighters yesterday faced the busiest day since the Second World War when the British capital was devastated by German aviation bombs. Several fires have developed in the metropolis due to record temperatures above 40 degrees and have damaged over 40 properties including homes, warehouses and garages, according to Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Hundreds of firefighters intervened to put out the flames in the sun-dried lawns, particularly in Wennington, a suburb in the eastern suburbs of London: there are 20 houses destroyed there. Temperatures remain high today but are down from yesterday’s peak and in the meantime severe thunderstorms are expected which could cause flooding in some areas of England. (HANDLE).
