Kenya: Odinga, ‘this is how the elections were stolen from us’

(ANSA) – NAIROBI, AUG 23 – The “petition” against the result of the presidential elections in Kenya presented yesterday by the political coalition of the defeated candidate, Raila Odinga, does not speak of procedural errors as occurred in 2017, but of “a plan deliberated by part of a dishonest president who wanted to undermine the process to ensure a fraudulent outcome. “

This is evident from statements made on the sidelines of the presentation of dozens of files to the Supreme Court by the lawyer Paul Mwangi’s office published by The Standard newspaper, which reports Odinga’s sentence: “They stole our elections”.

“The way in which the presidential elections on 9 August were conducted went beyond non-compliance with the Constitution and the rule of law, to a premeditated, illegal and criminal subversion of the integrity of the electoral process”, say the signatories. of the petition.

Among the issues raised, according to The Standard, the failure to recount the votes of 27 constituencies that could overturn the result in favor of Odinga or lead him and his rival William Ruto, elected president, to the ballot.
