Gb, Moscow increases troops, but attack power in Ukraine in step

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 28 – Moscow plans to bring the number of soldiers of its armed forces to over 1.15 million units, an increase of over 140,000 units: however, this decision, announced on August 25, will hardly translate in a substantial increase of its men deployed in Ukraine. British intelligence writes this in its daily update on the situation in the country.

It is still unclear whether Russia will try to reach the new level by recruiting other volunteer ‘contract’ soldiers, or by increasing the annual target of conscription, the London services note in the report released today by the Ministry of Defense.

In any case, the intelligence explains, under current legislation it is unlikely that Russian “fighting power” in Ukraine will make “substantial progress” because Moscow has already lost tens of thousands of soldiers in the country, a very small number of new ones. Contract soldiers are being recruited and technically new recruits are not required to fight across national borders. (HANDLE).
