Sweden is still against the transfer of JAS Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine, but is already ready to allow Ukrainian pilots to train on them

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson reiterated that his government is not ready to transfer JAS Gripen combat fighters to Ukraine, as this could have a detrimental effect on national security. Nevertheless, Stockholm supported the decision to start training Ukrainian pilots on these combat aircraft, which could be a positive signal.

This was reported by the news agency Euractive. The Swedish official noted that now his Air Force does not have enough aircraft in service to make deliveries to friendly countries.

“Russia is now greatly weakened in the ground forces, but in the naval and air forces they are practically intact. Therefore, we do not have surpluses at military bases,” Jonson said.

He added that he did not mind at all that Ukrainian specialists could have access to the JAS Gripen helm. Therefore, together with colleagues, he discusses the prospect of training fighters of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the training grounds in Sweden.

As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS reported, today President Zelensky held talks with Swedish Defense Minister Jonsson. The politicians discussed the work of the aviation coalition aimed at supplying Ukraine with American F-16 fighters.
