China sends its military to Ukraine to study the realities of modern war in practice. So Beijing intends to prepare the army for the possible invasion of Taiwan.
This was written by the American publication “Hill” with reference to the political observer Gordon of Chang – the author of the books “Chinese project to destroy America”, “Complete accident of China” and “China is preparing for war.” He noted that the Ukrainian authorities reported the presence of hundreds of China citizens within the Russian army at the front.
Basically we are talking about mercenaries who were not officially supported by Beijing. However, according to Reuters, Chinese officers also work in Ukraine – they collect information about the tactics and actions of both the Russians and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And, according to Chang, these officers definitely work by order of the PRC.
Richard Fisher from the Center for International Assessment and Strategy in Washington, in a conversation with Chang, said that China, obviously, was striving to study the experience of the Russian-Courane war in order to better prepare its own army for future wars.
“If the Chinese army can understand and expand the lessons of the Ukrainian battlefield, it can significantly increase its chances of quick victory in Krieg Blit in Taiwan,” Fisher said.
According to Chang, the Chinese military not only monitor the battles, but also probably advise Russian commanders. This form of interaction allows the PRC to prepare for future conflicts without official responsibility for their actions in the international arena.
Charles Burton from the analytical center Sinopsis emphasizes that even if the participation of Chinese citizens in the Ukrainian war looks like an initiative from below, this will probably be a silent consent of the Chinese government.

“China probably sees a great advantage in the fact that Chinese troops, although simply mercenaries, are fighting in Ukraine. The United States and other countries are not accused of any expenses for its wide support for Russian military efforts. Therefore, we should not be surprised that Beijing now thinks that he can send a soldier to the soldiers. ”
Earlier, China announced its readiness to play a “constructive role” at the end of the war in Ukraine, but at the same time there is an important nuance – Beijing supports Russia in protecting its “interests”. At the same time, they continue to speak for negotiations and a “fair” peace agreement, which will take into account the positions of all participants in the conflict.
According to OBOZ.UA, in early April 2025, the forces of Ukraine’s protection in Donetsk were captured by two Chinese soldiers. They had documents that testify to China’s citizenship. Prior to this, Ukrainian defenders joined the battle in the area of the settlements of Tarasivka and Bigovka with six military China, but only two survived.
At the same time, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that Beijing did not send its military personnel to participate in the war against Ukraine.
